Symposium Track No/Topic: Engineering materials and Structures

 

Symposium Title: Application of joining techniques for industrial materials in automotive, aeronautic-aerospace, marine and pipelines industries

 

Symposium Description:

  Recent years have seen the appearance of important developments relative to automotive applications in the field of joining techniques, particularly in LASER welding-tailored blanks, now industrially produced by different European steel-makers and also automotive-makers, in the field of spot welding, mechanical way of joining and combined techniques such as for example, weld-bonding. All of these joining techniques applied with new steels grades, such as (TRIP) Transformation Induced Plasticity, (HR) High Resistance, (DP) Dual Phase or IF (Interstitial Free) steels, contribute or will contribute to simplify production methods, and in final to car weight reduction, preserving the same level of global safety or even improving it greatly. The industrial carrying out of these new techniques gives satisfactory results. But, there is evidently span for further improvements yielding cost reductions and increased safety. The same developments can be observed in other industrial applications such as; development in friction stir welding of aluminum and magnesium, for the welding of long lengths of material in the aerospace, shipbuilding and railway industries. Examples include large fuel tanks and other containers for space launch vehicles, cargo decks for high-speed ferries, and roofs for railway carriages.

Topics of this symposium will cover up all joining techniques and industrial applications, destructive- non-destructive tests, failure mode, failure analysis, design and modeling, numerical and computational methods, etc.

This symposium will be a useful platform for researchers and encourage the industry-academia interactions.
